The mission of DG Research and Innovation is to design and implement research and innovation policies and programmes in collaboration with Member States, international partners, citizens, industry and other.
These policies and programmes, supported by investment and relevant
regulation, will deliver new knowledge and breakthrough innovation for the green
and digital transformations that leave nobody behind and help to accelerate the
transition towards a sustainable, safe, fair and prosperous future for people and
planet.
We aim to have a high scientific, technological and societal impact, built on
scientific evidence and strong input from citizens and industry. We operate in an ethically
robust, effective and efficient manner and keep a strong focus on the European added
value.
Our tools are Horizon Europe and the European Research Area (ERA).
Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation with a budget of €95.5 billion.
It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth.
Horizon Europe supports the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP), a multilateral and strategic partnership of national and regional RDI programmes in European Member States and Associated Countries with the aim to contribute substantially to the implementation of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan.
ERA is a unified research area open to the world and based on the internal market.
It enables free circulation of researchers, scientific knowledge and technology.
