The image of Bled with its castle, lake, and island in the middle of the lake are the sights by which Bled is known almost all over the world. Bled Castle is like a silent witness to its former power, standing firmly and confidently on the rock above the lake. Lake Bled enjoys a reputation for its extraordinary beauty. The background of this paradise is formed by the forested slopes of Jelovica, Pokljuka, the Karawanks, and the peaks of the Julian Alps with Slovenia’s highest peak and its symbol, Mt. Triglav. There is a romantic island in the middle of the lake with a glorious church dedicated to the assumption of Mary. The island and the church have a rich history. The church holds the famous Bell of Wishes from 1543. Bled became an independent municipality again in 1995. With 72.3 square km and 8,217 inhabitants, it is one of the medium-sized Slovenian municipalities. The main economic activity of the municipality of Bled is tourism with a wide tourist offer.
